James Bolsover set himself up as a manufacturer of soap. Each bar of soap was embossed with the image of some owls above a bee. This was not a symbolic representation of "wisdom and work", but rather a dreadful pun on the name Bolsover. "Bee with owls over"; get it? James claimed to have "invented" soap, but got sued for his efforts. We are not sure what the the grounds for this action against James were. Perhaps, in some sad coincidence, another soap manufacturer was already using the bee and owls logo? Another, more likely, suggestion was that he used the brand name "White Windsor", when "Windsor" soap was already branded by a existing major soap manufacturer. Advert for Bolsover soap
